Interoperability and smaller IT providers

I recently completed a piece of research on how smaller development companies make platform decisions. One fact caught my attention, and I wasn’t surprised: More than 50% of small IT companies work in a multi-platform world. That is, their customers have more than one platform of Windows, Linux, Unix, OSX, and on top of that there are differing document standards, database standards, communication protocols etc – and they have to make it work together.
